On June 30th I went to Hunter Park in Langley to begin my final data collection. The weather was sunny and hot with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and I started my data collection in the field at 12:45 pm. I did the sampling for the maintained area that is dominated by turf grass.
I paced out 5 sampling areas in the maintained area that ranged from 10mx20m up to 12mx60m, I then used a random number generator to get an x and y coordinate, and I then paced out the coordinates starting in the southeast corner of the sampling area while using a compass on my phone. I placed the left corner of my square 1m2 quadrat where the coordinates landed, if the quadrat contained some of the gravel path, was less than a meter away from the unmaintained area, or was in an area that was dominated by a large tree then I got new coordinates. I then recorded every plant species that I found in my quadrat that was not a large tree or grass and I also recorded if turf grass was the dominant species. I repeated this process twice in each of the five sampling areas, which resulted in a total of 10 replicates in the maintained area that is dominated by turf grass. I will go back to Hunter Park to repeat this process for the unmaintained area.
I have not had any problem with implementing my sampling design nor have I seen any ancillary patterns, however, I have not sampled the unmaintained area yet.
