The initial data collection was a bit more complicated than I expected. While the sample strategy was straight forward, the field work required was more than expected. The tributaries I sampled were vastly different, one dry and nearly bare the other overgrown and wet. Using my sample strategy of running a transect from the top of the tributary to the bottom and measuring 50m intervals to place a 1m^2 quadrat was easy in theory. When put into practice however, the overgrown wet tributary made it hard to measure 50m in a straight line which most likely created some variance in the distance between each quadrat. I don’t plan to modify my approach since the transect has already been laid out for each of the sites and will remain in place until the data collection is done.
