Post 1: Observation

I chose Blue Mountain Hill, Halifax, NS (Nova Scotia) for observing the relationship between the environment and species there. Blue mountain hill is an area in eastern Canada, which includes plains and hills. The diversity and environmental structure there were rich, and there were hills at different altitudes for me to observe and compare. I found that the ecosystems and species Blue Mountain Hill might be influenced by the change of environment such as altitude.

I chose a sunny day in July to come to Blue Mountain Hill to observe the number of species in different areas. I focused on the species at low and high altitude, and I found that the population of Adiantum Pedatum and Fescue were clearly different at different altitudes. I set up a question that if there are effect of altitude on the population of species?

I went to Blue Mountain Hill twice a week to observe the abundance, density, and productivity of the species in low and high altitude and recorded the keystone species in different altitude.
