My backyard_Brampton Ontario

My backyard will be the area of my research, Brampton, Ontario. It is fully fenced and isolated from neighbours. We have a trampoline for the kids; besides that, it is a grassy backyard with a rocky area below the deck. I water the grass and other plants every morning, and sometimes it needs to be watered late afternoon again, depending on the temperature.

My observation took place on Friday, 23-9-2022, from 9:30-10:00 a.m. It was 8° Celsius. It was cloudy and windy, with no signs of rain.

I have noticed some scat of a rabbit or squirrel on the grass close to the peppermint plant, and this made me look for more animal activities, but no signs of that were found. From time to time, we notice squirrels running around. The area in the backyard is mainly grassed. We have other plants in the yard, some of which we planted, such as cherry tomatoes, and raspberries (one in a pot and the second plant on the grassy land). We also have wild plants, some of which we decided to keep, such as peppermint, and others we regularly take out due to their invasiveness, such as Creeping Thistle, Reed Canary Grass, and Common Dandelion. All these plants are on the grassy ground; on the other hand, the rocky area only has weeds.

Questions:

  1. Would the raspberry trees (in a pot Vs on the lawn) differ in their growth rate?
  2. Would the raspberry and the cherry tomatoes will survive the upcoming winter?
  3. How does the weed growth (under the deck) differ from that growing between the grass under the sunlight?
