Bowmont Park Observations

I have decided to study Bowmont Park in Calgary. Bowmont is a very popular park in Calgary and includs a pathway that runs along the Bow River line, connecting multiple communities. Bowmont is very fairly ecologically diverse. It has multiple channels of the Bow River running through it and various tree, shrub and bush species. The whole park is about 4km, but I am planning to only focus on a small section, that is an island between the rest of Bowmont Park and the local community of Bowness. The area I am studying is also referred to as an off leash dog park. There is a bridge connecting Bowness community that runs over the main river channel. There is a second bridge connecting to Bowmont across a smaller river channel. Both channels meet and converge into the same channel again. The area that I am focusing on has several paths for people. It also holds a part of the CP Rail train track.

Three questions that come to mind:

  • How do the different river channels on either side affect the rocks
  • How is the plant life connected? Is connected to areas in the park that are from the island or is this a unique ecosystem?
  • How does water height vary throughout the year?
