The biological attribute I am studying is the bird community structure at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, so I can understand which species using the sanctuary. My vantage point will be from the location called the Big Bridge because it is known to be the best location to observe the greatest number of species possible at the bird sanctuary. Each survey will be 60 minutes in length and done in a point count method. Only birds seen will be counted as my survey skills for identifying birds by sound is not well developed.
My hypothesis is that there will be a significant difference between the different order of birds observed from the Big Bridge location.
I predict that Anseriformes (ducks, geese, and swans) will be the most abundant order represented because the sanctuary is located within a wetland along the Bow River, and therefore, it is optimal habitat for waterfowl.
The response variable is the different bird species utilizing the sanctuary in view of the Big Bridge during the survey time.
The explanatory variable is habitat type at the location of the study which is considered wetland habitat.
Both of these variables would be considered categorical because each can be classified into one or more unique categories.
The photos attached are survey results from three separate surveys and a photo of a common loon observed at during a survey.
