Inglewood Bird Sanctuary Intro

Module 1 Blog Post 1

The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a stop over for migratory birds and a protected park in the heart of Calgary, Ab. On record, there have 270 bird species, 21 mammal species, and 347 plant species recorded in the area. It is an ecological safe haven with no access to bicycles or dogs. The protected area spans along the Bow river and contains 36 hectares of land. A few common waterfowl species observed at the sanctuary are the Common Goldeneye, Canada Goose, Mallard, and Wood Ducks. The sanctuary includes riverbanks and land covered in native trees, shrubs, and mixed grasses.

Three questions I have about the bird sanctuary are:

  1. Will I observe the same most common species as found online?
  2. What is the species composition throughout the park?
  3. Specifically, what is the composition of birds inhabiting the area?

I will be using what is known as the “Big Bridge” in the park to make my observations. The Big Bridge is labeled with the number 9 in the attached photo.
