So Much Waterfowl!

All of my field data was collected over the summer, and in total, I completed 11 replicates. One extra than I originally planned. I didn’t have any issues implementing my design, but my focus was sometimes shifted as fellow birders would stop and ask me what I was doing since i had a tablet and my things on the ground – I think many assumed I worked for the city. Throughout my surveys, I was really amazed about how many species utilize the area. Even walking into the sanctuary, I could hear movement in the tall native grasses which depending on the level of disturbance, I would assume was a ground nester or small mammal. I also observed mule deer numerous times throughout my time at the sanctuary which is always awesome to see.

The surveys were turning out exactly as expected with mostly waterfowl being observed. I’m looking forward to analyzing the data to see exactly what I have!

One thing I have noticed is that I am missing out on many songbirds that I cannot record because I cannot see them. If anything, this has prompted me to focus on identifying birds by song once I have some more free time in my schedule.
