I found that creating a design to work from is very hard. I thought it would be straightforward but it requires time, and it will probably change with more research conducted and data collected. I found that I wasn’t as through as I could’ve been looking back. Ecology requires a lot of time, awareness and mindfulness. You need to investigate topics thoughtfully and you need to see a bigger picture. Another thing I noticed is that I would get a lot of new and interesting ideas while conducting my research. That’s not so much an issue, but it’s an observation about field work. It is very restricting or if you want to include new ideas you’d need to restart, which takes a lot of effort. I also found that the visual representations are very detailed and time consuming and sometimes hard to understand.
I had very little of what ecology entailed and the process of ecological theory. I find it very interesting and I think it does require work. I found it interesting and helpful knowing the basis of the theory. I like that we had to include every aspect of our design. I think knowing what we know from the course it also gives us a new perspective on other scientific theories and how each discipline differs from the next.
