The three sampling strategies used in the virtual forest tutorial were systematic, random, and haphazard sampling. Systematic had the fasted estimated sampling time, and random had a very similar sampling time to haphazard by 1 minute however both random and haphazard sampling had a slower sampling time than systematic by about 8 minutes. The highest percent error for both hemlock and birch was found in the random sampling (most common species). The systemic sampling had the highest percent error for the least common species, chestnut oak and red maple. In terms of the lowest percent error, the most accurate sampling strategy would be haphazard and the least accurate would be random sampling because it had the highest percent error.
what can you conclude from this that might be helpful for your research? 😉
