KINGS PARK

Hi, I’m Yishi Qian, and I reside in Winnipeg. For this project, I chose Kings Park because it’s my favourite dog park close to my house. This city park offers a lake, a garden, and a designated space for dogs, among other features. Due to the significant snowfall, I will only observe a small portion of this 92-acre park near the Chinese pagoda gardens. Summertime brings a wealth of natural resources; last summer, I saw a large number of fungus in this park. However the majority of the park was covered with snow during the winter. On March 9, 2023, when I last visited this park, the weather was overcast and windy, and the temperature was -4 degrees Celsius, which felt like -10 degrees. no wild animals were observed.

There are my potential questions from this visiting:

  1. What causes the trees to slant towards the north? Wind? or the sun?
  2. What is the footprint in the thick snow that I saw? (Excluding pets, as this is not an off-leash dog area and is in the middle of grounds covered in deep snow.)
  3. What is the tree with red seeds that I saw? Is the crimson, rounded object a seed or a fruit?
  4. Will the vegetation in this region be reduced as a result of the dog urine marks I saw along the pathway? What will be different in vegetation between this area and the lawn’s middle in the spring or summer?
