The technique which proved to be most efficient in time spent sampling was haphazard which took 14 hours and 31 minutes whereas random sampling/ systematic took 25 hours 46 minutes.
Some sample calculation for percentage of error –
Haphazard –
For most common species
Red Maple
(421.4 – 403.7)/403.7 x 100 = 4.29%
Least common –
White Ash-
(3.6 – 0.8)/0.8 x 100 = 350%
Systematic –
Most Common Species
Red Maple
(426 – 403.7)/403.7 x 100 = 5.52%
Least Common –
White Ash
(0 – 0.8)/0.8 x 100 = 100%
Was 24 a sufficient number of sample points to capture the number of species in this community? Was it enough sample points to accurately estimate the abundance of these species?
Systematic way of Sampling exceeded 24 hours but plotting between 30 to 50 quadrants gave me accurate estimation with respect to abundant species.
The graphs are too small to read and while you have listed the errors you haven’t discussed the questions.
