Did you have any difficulties organizing, aggregating or summarizing your data?
I was unsure on how to organize this research to begin with, but after a while I decided to record percentage cover of the individual species, within each square. Ten squares were sampled, and the total percentage was calculated at the end. I was also trying to ensure that I have recorded the respected species, and that it was the CORRECT species I was looking at. Overall, this was not difficult to do, just wet, given the location.
Was the outcome as you expected?
The outcome was expected, but not to the extent I thought it would be. Perhaps this would be the time of year, and the new growth that is coming in. Thankfully, there is air photos that demonstraight the changes that have occurred over the years and the increase in construction.
Did your data reveal anything unexpected or give you any ideas for further exploration?
I did keep a track of birds in the areas as well, so there was a relationship between vegetation and bird species diversity. This was expected, of course, but I would say it “hit home” to actually observe it in person.
