Lakelse Lake: Field Observations

In this research project, I seek to record and analyse the presence or absence of the selected 4 berry species in the area of focus. It will help me, investigate the relationship between elevation, and the prevalence of four selected berry species: Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (Kinnikinnick), Rubus parviflorus (Thimbleberry), and Sambucus racemosa (Red Elderberry)and Actaea rubra(Redbane berry) in different areas of the lake.
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (Kinnikinnick) also known as bearberry, is a low-growing evergreen shrub of Ericaceae family. It is well-adapted to various environments, including sandy soils and rocky terrains, but majorly in well-drained soils. Rubus parviflorus (thimbleberry) is a deciduous shrub classified under the Rosaceae family. It too prefers well-draining soils and is often found in forested areas nutrient-rich soils. It tends to thrive in locations with higher humidity. Sambucus racemosa (red elderberry) is also a deciduous shrub of Adoxaceae family and  is often found in forested areas and riparian zones, thriving in soils with ample moisture. Actea rubra, also known as Redbane berry, is a poisonous herbaceous flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae. It is one of the poisonous berries.
