Theoretical basis for your research project: My research focuses on investigating the correlation between Calyptocarpus abundance and the factors of shade availability and human foot traffic. The underlying concept guiding my research is that although Calyptocarpus plants naturally thrive in warmer climates like Mexico and Texas, their growth is significantly enhanced when they are shaded by surrounding oak trees. Additionally, I aim to determine the impact of human foot traffic on Calyptocarpus abundance. To achieve these objectives, my research methodology involves conducting a thorough count of the number of Calyptocarpus plants within designated sample stations, taking into account the presence or absence of shade and the level of human foot traffic. For this purpose, I established three transects and recorded whether shade was present (1) or absent (0), as well as the degree of foot traffic observed (ranging from 0 to 3, representing none, light, moderate, and extreme levels).
What ecological process might your hypothesis touch on?
The hypothesis of my research touches on the ecological process of plant-environment interactions, specifically the relationship between shade availability and plant abundance.
Three key words that I could use to describe my research project:
- Species abundance
- Shade availability
- Human foot traffic impact
You will want to go a little broader for your theoretical perspective. This will form the basis for your introduction. Topics like shade tolerance of flowering plants or impacts of soil compaction / human activities.
