Wetlands

Post 1: Observations: I visited Ken Oblik Greenway Park in south pointe, Winnipeg, MB, Canada on June 20th and 31st at 10:30am. It was hot and sunny; temperature was 29 degrees. There are 30 acres of constructed naturalized wetland ponds and wetland channels. In these community, insects and animals work together with plants which keep their wetland natural. Moreover, native upland grasses and wildflowers found through their parkways such as purple prairie clover, June grass, goldenrod, Canada wild rye, sunflowers, Meadow blazing star, and fungi.

1. Effect of climate change on native upland grasses.
2. Why wetlands are important in the environment?
3. What are the benefits of the cordial relationship between plants and the insects to the environment

  1. Your study site sounds like a good one. It would be good to have a few more details on numbers of wetlands, size of the uplands / whole park and is it a city or provincial park? As you move through the next modules you will start to think of questions you can design for this course. Your questions are interesting though could be hard to answer within this course.
