- Organisms Studied: I plan to study the activities of native wildlife species found in the Okanagan Region, including whitetail deer, black bear, coyote, bobcat, cougar, elk, moose, rabbit, and skunk. Data for these species is being collected mainly from the use of wildlife cameras. I will also look at the different vegetation species in this area.
- Observations of organisms – choosing three locations along the gradient to observe: I am comparing two distinctly different areas, one which has been cleared of all brush in the understory, and the other which has been left uncleared, in its natural state. Within each of these areas, I completed 6 plots (12 total) to collect data on how much vegetative cover was in each layer, dominant species in each layer, heights of those species basal area data, and any sign of wildlife was also noted.
- Processes that caused patterns noted – there is more wildlife activity found within the area that has been cleared which was expected, as well as shrub and herb coverage is lower as well. This is likely due to the fact that removing the understory layer has allowed for easier access for wildlife to move through the area.
- Response variable and explanatory variable: The response variable would be that wildlife activity will continue to increase in the cleared area and the explanatory variable would be because it is easier to move through, plus there will be more herbivory vegetation available to browse. These variables would be continuous.
