WEATHER: partly cloudy, 18°C

LOCATION: Riverside Park, Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.

SIZE: The size of the park is approximately 11.8 hectares.

COORDINATES: Latitude: 50.6755° N, Longitude: 120.3315° W

TOPOGRAPHY: is mostly flat and mildly sloping, particularly along the Thompson River.

VEGETATION: The park has a wide variety of vegetation, such as well-kept grassland areas, flowerbeds, and old trees

DESIGNATION: Riverside Park is a city park that the City of Kamloops owns and manages.

Based on the study area that I chose, I realized that my field observations will be well-suited for these aspects:

  1. Bird’s diversity and migration patterns; observing the park’s significance as a stopover site for migratory birds.

Question 1: Does Riverside Park serve as an important stopover for migratory birds, and do environmental factors like vegetation cover or proximity to the river impact bird diversity and behavior?

  1. The impact of human activities on wildlife; investigating the factors from the human side which affect the population of animals in the park.

Question 2: Is there a measurable impact on the population dynamics and behavior of local wildlife species, including birds and mammals, from human activities like feeding wildlife or altering habitats in Riverside Park?

  1. Urban green spaces and their ecological importance; investigating the ecological roles of riverside park on the biodiversity of the animals or plants.

Question 3: Does Riverside Park in Kamloops, as an urban green space, have a significant impact on biodiversity, and what specific ecological functions and services does the park provide in terms of plant and animal species diversity and habitat provision?”
