Detailed and exact data collection is somewhat difficult at this time of year since deciduous species are tougher to ID. As well, some of the riparian area is now submerged in water. Still, what is identifiable gives me a good idea of the types of species different levels/lengths of submergence on this site are able to support. Aspect and length of sun exposure are also showing influence, but mainly on upland species around the wetland.
So far, with feedback from Nancy, I have increased my sample size and broken each of the 5 ‘wedges’ of the wetland into two, so now I have 10 sampling units for each zone.
I’m open to trying new techniques if needed, but I’m currently compiling and analyzing the data I have already collected. I’m also doing background research to guide my understanding of wetlands, their hydrology, and wetland health. I know I need to refine my hypothesis, but I’m not sure exactly how yet. Hopefully research and further observation will guide my project going forward!
