Blog Post 6- Data Collection in King’s Park

So far, my field data collection in King’s Park is going really well. The weather has been very mild so far with an average temperature around 0°C. I have decided to spread out my data collection over 2 weeks. I have been sampling in the morning between 0800 and 1100 hours each day completing 6 replicates of randomly chosen sites. So far, I have completed 12 replicates out of the 30 I plan to collect. Currently, I haven’t had any issues implementing my sampling design, things seem to be going smoothly. I hypothesized that communication between red squirrel individuals is influenced by the amount of human activity. My prediction was that communication will be higher in areas with low human activity compared to areas with high human activity. So far, my data is showing a pattern that is similar to my prediction with areas with lower human activity having higher red squirrel communication. Reflecting on my hypothesis I think that it is significant and I will keep it how it is.
