Blog Post 7 : Theoretical Perspectives

My research project explores the different ecological processes that shape avian communities in urban environments, with a focus on identifying bird diversity and migration patterns within Riverside Park.

Theoretical Foundation:

The investigation of how environmental factors impact bird diversity and migration behaviours is at the heart of my research. By utilizing ecological theories like island biogeography and metacommunity dynamics, my goal is to clarify the factors influencing the distribution and quantity of birds in Riverside Park’s urban environment. In order to understand the underlying ecological processes influencing bird populations in urban green spaces, my research looks at the interactions among habitat structure, resource availability, and human impacts.

Examined Ecological Processes:

Examining the ways in which the spatial configuration of habitats in Riverside Park affects the distribution and migration patterns of avian species. Planning for conservation effectively requires an understanding of how habitat fragmentation affects genetic diversity and population dynamics.

Examining how interactions between bird species, such as competition and predation, influence community composition and structure. Community Assembly and Species Interactions. My goal is to clarify the ecological mechanisms underlying the assembly of avian communities in the park by looking at niche partitioning and coexistence mechanisms.

Evaluating Riverside Park’s contribution to avian biodiversity and ecosystem services as an urban green space within the field of urban ecology and ecosystem services. Examining how birds are provided with food, roosting locations, and shelter advances our knowledge of the ecological services rendered by urban ecosystems.
