The journey to collect the first set of data for our research project, I faced a few challenges with the sampling strategy. One of the main difficulties was placing the cups in the ground to trap the arthropods. The backyard terrain wasn’t always smooth, and sometimes it was hard to find suitable spots where the cups could be placed securely. I also had to be careful not to disturb the surrounding vegetation too much to avoid altering the natural habitat of the arthropods.

As I looked at the data I gathered, I noticed some surprises. Even though the big picture was what I thought it would be, there were small changes in how many arthropods there were that got me thinking. These unexpected ups and downs made me wonder about all the different things happening in the backyard. Even though I had some trouble, I’m still going to keep using the same way to collect data. I think sticking to what I know will help me understand more about how temperature and arthropod diversity are linked.
