Data Collection

My field data collection activities planned to capture the intricate interplay between temperature and fungal abundance after selecting the site for my research area. I recorded the temperature of the soil around 12 pm each day to avoid different temperatures during different times of the day, and to quantify fungal abundance I employed the tried and tested quadrant sampling by random step generator and random coordinate to move within the direction and number generated. One of the most notable hurdling was the unpredictability of the weather conditions which, I found was harder to move around in a field after rain had fallen. In certain instances I have noticed peaks in fungal abundance at the intermediate temperature range, suggesting the interaction transcends simplified linear relationships.

  1. I am wondering if you think there are daily changes in fungal abundance or that overall they are in higher abundance in areas warmer over a longer period of time? What fungi are you studying and do they tend to change over a short period of time? These are things to think about as you get ready to write your paper and start thinking of the theoretical basis for your research.
