My Observation Location: Flat Grassy lawn with blue spruce ( tree) cover

The location begins as I get out from the back of my building in Winnipeg, MB, coordinates; 49.826758, -97.150796, the area is a flat grassland that stretches to an area of 200 feet and is surrounded by a badminton and swimming pool area with blue spruce trees on the sides of each of the borders. The grassland is riddled with many fallen leaves from the blue spruce perhaps with the changing season from winter to spring. This area has frequent visits from Canadian geese and rarely anything else except for maybe some other species of birds but I have yet to see them. The first day I analyzed it was– 27-03-2025. Time: 04:05 PM. Weather: -6 degrees, Snow shower, quite windy about 20 km/h, and gradients of snow cover in some areas of the flat grassy lawn.

Potential Subjects:

Some geese visit the area to feed. Another subject could be the season changing, and all of the small but important changes happen just in the ecosystem of my backyard.

Observation questions:

  • Geese are feeding in the lawn and the badminton court area, I am not certain what they are eating, but there is possibly a food source that the geese are gravitating towards every single day in that area, especially during the changing seasons perhaps the snow cover melting away.
  • One of the blue spruce trees has needles that are unusually brown and could be linked to some kind of disease or poor health related to changing/ harsh weather conditions which could explain the abundance of fallen needles on the grassy lawn.
  • The impact of perhaps human and wildlife traffic on the ecosystem by impacting the terrain?
