For the Field Research project, I will observe my backyard just outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The yard is 1 Arce and is flat with trees and bushes but is mostly grass covered. Some of the trees include sky bound cedar, maple trees, poplars, lilac bushes, and pine trees. There is a pool in the yard and a sand beach volleyball court. On May 21st the weather was a normal Manitoba spring day roughly 12 degrees and it had just rained with a slight breeze. The time was around 12:30pm when I took photos.

Some of the potential subjects I might want to research are birds or plants. Some research questions could be: What is the impact of Dog Presence on Bird Activity in a backyard? How does weather impact bird diversity and behaviors in a backyard? What types of mosses grow in the yard and what environments are they growing in?

  1. Hi, welcome to the field portion of the course. I must have missed this blog post, sorry about that. Backyards can work well for a project as long as you consider the scale of your project and a design that allows replication. Your questions have some potential and I look forward to see what you are moving forward with.
