As I am in the Arctic for work at the moment I have chosen a tundra site in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut for my research site. Possible research questions are: does slope aspect affect plant growth or type? Do migratory birds prefer wet areas compared to dry areas?
The study area is characterized by tundra and is in an area of polar desert. Vegetation includes low lying grass, moss and flowers such as mountain avens. There are many migratory birds in the area including king eider, sandpipers, snow geese and swans. Terrain is gently rolling hills. There are a number of shallow ponds and one small lake in the study area. The ocean lies about 1 km from the site. Weather during observations was overcast, 8.4C, with northwesterly winds.
