Paul Lake Provincial Park 50 44′29″N 120 07′44″W Write an observation diary of the park, which species and weather, raising three ecologically related questions August 4,2024 at 16:00 Today, I came to Paul Lake Provincial Park, located in British Columbia, Canada. The sun is shining at about 23℃. First, I noticed that the vegetation on the lake was very rich. The shoreline is surrounded by dense reeds and catrushes, providing an ideal habitat for many waterbirds. I saw several Canadian Black ducks (Common Merganser) in the water, they gracefully across the water, sometimes diving underwater for food. In addition, several white-headed eagles (Bald Eagle) hover in the sky. I even saw a caribou (Moose). The emergence of these animals made me realize that Paul Lake Provincial Park is a very rich biodiversity area. floristics In Paul Lake Provincial Park, many other plants grow on the lake in addition to reeds and catgrass. Along the shoreline, willow, poplar, in the grass of the lake, I saw the golden dandelion, purple garden, wild roses. During the observation, I had several questions about the park ecosystem: 1. Will the dense vegetation of the lake affect the water quality of the lake by the lake? For example, does the decomposition of plant debris lead to water body eutrophication? 2. Are the populations of small mammals, such as squirrels and rabbits effectively controlled in this park? Do they cause excessive eating on vegetation? 3. Is the wildlife in the park disturbed due to the increase in human activity? For example, does visitor noise and litter have a negative impact on animal habitat and behavior?

  1. Hi, welcome to the field research portion of the course. Paul lake certainly works as a study site. As you work through the next few modules you will think more about questions you can ask in this course.
For your question 1, natural vegetation does not normally cause eutrophication – what about the development around Paul lake? Regardless, this is a tough question to answer in the space of this course.
