Creating tables and graphs from my data was not too difficult given that I had only chosen two separate sampling locations to use the point count station method with. I created a summary table which confirmed my initial hypothesis regarding which of the two sets of fruit trees would attract more birds. However, I was surprised that some previously common bird species were not recorded during the sampling time frame at all for the field research project. Upon further reflection as to why this might be the case, it is possible that recent demolition of nearby homes has reduced the tree and bush cover in the neighbourhood, so that a reduce number of species of birds are sustainable in the area. Also, the overall total numbers of birds I observed were lower than I initially expected given my recollection from previous years. This might be because the fruit trees are not quite at full ripeness yet and perhaps once they are, the birds will return. It will be beyond the scope of this field research project to extend the data collection period, but interesting to explore from a literature standpoint if removal of habitat nearby can impact bird abundance and diversity.
