I collected data on squirrel abundance and activity in a city park. I used five point count stations systematically placed in areas with varying levels of human activity. Initially I hypothesized that squirrel abundance would decrease with increasing levels of human activity throughout the park. The data I collected was surprising because I was observing the opposite, where squirrel abundance was actually increasing with human activity. I therefore revisited my hypothesis and realized that I did not take into account for the behavioral adaptations squirrels may have had over the years and thus revisited my initial hypothesis. In terms of design, I could better characterize human activity, ultimately it was also hard be at the point count stations at times of high human activity.
