Blog Post 6: Data Collection

I planned to visit my observation site 20 times (2 times per day for total of 10 days) as I had been living in Phuket, Thailand temporarily. I’ve successfully managed to sample 10 replicates and haven’t faced any major challenges in collecting data.

I planned to visit my observation site during best hours of low and high tide when it is daylight and tides are at their peak. Almost immediately after I started my observations I clearly saw patterns that support my hypothesis as there had been none herons during high tide and usually 1-3 during low tide.

I haven’t noticed any changes in activity of herons due to different weather conditions, e.g. heavy rain or wind, however I’ve noticed that White herons have different technique in catching their prey as well as the Grey heron that usually chose a different location for searching for food.

  1. good use of the ‘rule of 10’ per the module that talks about this
this table summarizes key elements and recognizes that 0 is a value
always tough doing field work when it is ~30 degrees ; )
