Theoretical Perspectives

For my research I was interested in observing the effect human activity had on squirrel behaviour; will they indulge in self maintenance and foraging within proximity to us? Could reforested areas within cities create an environment for them and other animals to thrive? Though my data is coming back as I expected, further observations suggest human activity is not the only factor affecting the results. More competition in the location with human activity between red squirrels could also be a reason for more alertness and less self-maintenance. Vocalizations of squirrels are more common in this area, and occurs both in response to humans passing by, as well as when other squirrels are within proximity, or there is an altercation between them.

Several keywords I would use to describe my study would be human disturbance, ecological niches, and behavioural ecology.
