I chosen to study one of the Garden within the University of Manitoba, Located along the University college lecture building. This specific garden has the GPS coordinates 49.813° (latitude) and -97.1311°. The approximate size is 0.247105 acres or 1000m² . About a distance of 125m from the Red river. It has flat topography with slightly elevated area (gentle slopes) . The vegetation is a lawn/grassland with some deciduous and coniferous trees. Notices animals such as groundhogs, squirrels, insects.
I visited and made my first observation 15:20, 08/08/2023; Summer.
Partly sunny , 24°C, 7km/h wind W, Humidity 50%. It rained that morning, so the soil was humid/ wet. Soil type : loamy mixed with sand.
The questions that striking and could form the subject for my research project is
- What are feed strategies or mechanism of a groundhog and what species of plant within the garden are they ingesting.
- Why does the growth rates of curly dock crop changes at different gradient within the garden?
- What is the distribution of yellow clover like flowering plant and why does it grow only in cluster?
- Why are all weed species not evenly disturbed in the garden? dominance in shady areas?
Sounds like you have a good study site and some potential questions. Good luck continuing with your planning and narrowing down to a specific gradient and question.
