The theoretical basis of my research project is that anthophytes rely on mobile pollinators for reproduction; thus, they must evolve by natural selection to possess traits that attract these pollinators, such as certain colours. From the pollinator’s perspective, they must be able to detect the flower as well as discriminate them (identifying a target based on differences in their colour).
What ecological processes might your hypothesis touch on? What ideas underpin your research?
My hypothesis will touch mainly on natural selection, reproduction, and pollination. Ideas that underpin my research is that flowers adapt to possess traits that attract a variety of pollinators such as colour or sheer size. Pollinator’s attraction to these flowers are impacted by their trichromatic vision and their photoreceptors’ abilities to pick up on certain wavelengths.
