Ongoing Field Observations

My research project will focus on two main topics: The quantity of vegetation zones and the effects of flooding on ecosystems. I will examine above ground trends, species diversity, and plant height in three distinct zones.

Zone 1: The spikerush plant grows better near the storm water pond bank than other species and flood-tolerant, according to specie- to-species variations in plant height. The growth and dispersal of plants in this region are significantly influenced by light intensity as well.

Zone 2: Marshland zone; the region right next to storm water pond ;ground water had an impact on the biodiversity in this area from marsh to wet meadow.

Zone 3: An elevated grassland region whose ecosystems are obstructed by human activity and the walking path.

Hypothesis: According to my theory, human activity,stormwater pond and the frequency of flooding will all influence the kinds and quantities of vegetation that thrive in the lake.
Due to spikerush increased perseverance, I predict that spike rush will be more frequently seen along riverbanks, while species like Canada Wild-Rye are more frequent at higher elevations where flooding is less frequent.
Explanatory variables: how much water the ecosystem have access to and how far away the storm water pond could be explanatory variables

Response variable: The amount of vegetation present in a particular zones  could be a response variable.

  1. Hello ! I see three zones here but a bit of mixing of observations and results.
    the zones should be comparable types – so ‘habitat’ is a good one eg 1. pond water bank 2. marsh zone 3. upland zone (a sketch will help). We would expect to see more water tolerant plants in the water areas and less in the more upland area. is the response variable measuring all species or just focusing on two species? need a bit of clarity here
