Blog Post 3- Ongoing Field Observations

The focus of my study will be the distribution of grass in my backyard. My backyard has different slopes, sources of water for the growth of grass, and areas where direct sunlight is absent. I am interested in focusing on the influence of all these three factors in the growth and distribution of grass. I will be observing grass in the presence and absence of these factors and how they vary along the gradient.

Hypothesis

The distribution and growth of grass are influenced by slope, water, and sunlight.

Prediction

The distribution and growth of grass are abundant in the presence of water and sunlight and in areas of slope, the distribution and abundance of grass decreases.

I have attached the pictures of my field journal observations.

  1. How do slope, sunlight and water vary? Do they all change together – you have one area that is flat, high sun, and high water and another area that is sloped, low sun and low water? What I am getting at is are you testing for all of these together or will you be able to tell which one is influencing grass growth? Also, it is winter, is your grass growing where you live? Make sure to include details of your experimental design in your second small assignment.
