The theory behind my research project is the emphasis of nutrient cycling on primary production in lake ecosystems. My hypothesis creates a link between increased nutrient cycling by aeration in relatively shallow lakes, and how it leads to a higher chlorophyll content measured. In this scenario our chlorophyll content relates to plant material, but there are other organisms that produce chlorophyll but are not plants (i.e., algae). For my project I plan to conduct a review of the literature out there on similarly formed lakes and see if anyone else has studied the connection between increase nutrient and plant growth.
