Theoretical ideas behind field project

My study organism occurs in a zone between a marsh area and a grassland area. Changing soil conditions across the environmental gradient likely influence its growth pattern. Other ecological processes such as nutrient cycling, interspecies and intraspecies competition, and rhizome community composition are also likely to have some influence. My project is focussed on differences in soil moisture content, so processes like evaporation, drought, evapotranspiration, flooding, and precipitation would all impact my study organism. Using a presence/absence survey, I collected data along three transects, representing “dry”, “moist” and “wet” soil conditions.

Three keywords or phrases that describe my project are:

Soil moisture gradient

Plant zonation

Soil-plant relationships
