This is a research paper assessing the diet of Lake Superior herring gulls to determine how diet may influence population trends through effects on their physiology, reproduction and behavior. It discusses the results, and mentions the implications of these results on a larger scale of change occurring across the ecosystem. The paper contains an abstract, introduction, methods, results and discussion section. It also contains many in-text citations and a reference section.

The article has been published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Great Lakes Research by academics from Carleton University, Parks Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada. The article was received February 28, 2022 and accepted for publication on August 4, 2022, with one of the associate editors (referee) mentioned, Francesca Cuthbert.
