Blog Post 7: Theoretical Perspectives

Most suburban (and some urban) areas in North America have lawns.  Discussions regarding maintenance practices have come to focus, with differing perspectives on the short- and long-term impacts of various landscape and horticultural methods on overall plant health, species diversity, introduction of invasive species, soil health, and more.  These topics are of concern to groups such as homeowners, municipalities, and environmentalists for economical and ecological reasons.

By investigating variable mowing treatments, my study aims to comment on the relationship between the intensity of mechanical disturbance and subsequent succession events and whether it increases the presence of invasive species.

Three key phrases that could describe my research project are: landscape maintenance, invasive species, disturbance.

  1. Make sure you expand your theoretical background such that it includes peer-reviewed references mainly and note the 10 annotations should all be peer-reviewed scientific papers. You can include some other references as well in your paper as well but they shouldn’t be the focus.
