In this research project I examined why there are fewer trees present closer to the creek located at fishtrap creek park. There could be many reasons with ecological explanations to further explain these observations however for this project my hypothesis focuses on distance and how increasing distance from the creek results in more trees present. There could be many reasons with ecological explanations that could be related to this observed trend. For this research project I will also be looking at how slope could potentially affect the pattern seen as in this case further distances were located at higher slopes. I will also be looking at other ecological explanations such as soil type, flooding, nutrient and resource availability affecting tree growth near the creek.
